Cortisol should change over a 12-24 hour time frame and we should create a “cortisol curve” whereby our cortisol is higher in the morning and then goes down as the day goes on. his test measures cortisol at 4 different times in the day to check for the cortisol curve. Everyone experiences stress at times, but how well we cope with stress depends a lot on our adrenal gland function. Our modern-day stresses tend to be less dramatic, but of longer duration. This means that cortisol levels may stay mildly elevated, resulting in symptoms like feeling tired but wired, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety. Excess cortisol also interferes with the action of other hormones (progesterone, testosterone and thyroid), creating more hormone imbalance and more symptoms. With continued stress, the adrenal glands may become depleted from producing too much cortisol or may reduce cortisol production significantly in response to the detrimental effects of high cortisol. Symptoms of low cortisol may include fatigue (particularly morning fatigue), increased susceptibility to infection, decreased recovery from exercise, allergies, low blood sugar, burned out feeling, depression and low sex drive. This test sample is provided at home and then put into any local mailbox using the pre-paid mailer package.

This test includes an evaluation of our “hormone triangle” including: sex hormones, thyroid, and adrenal glands. This is a great test for patients looking to do bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, for peri-menopause or symptomatic menopausal patients, to assess hormone function for suspicious symptoms or to establish a healthy baseline prior to the onset of changes. Specifically, it measures estrogen in the forms of estrone, estradiol, estriol, and estrogen metabolites that help give information about bone health, cancer connections, and detoxification/methylation in the liver. It also includes progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, cortisol, cortisone, pregnenolone, adrenal function metabolites, aldosterone, sodium, potassium, urinary T3 and T4 for thyroid function, and 5-alpha-reductase pathway enzymes as indicators for metabolic syndrome, Type 2 diabetes risk and more. This is a 24 hour urinary collection that you do at home and then the samples need to be couriered to the lab.

This test is a first morning saliva test that measures the sex hormones (estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA), and cortisol. Women of any age can be affected by hormone issues and may experience: uanormal menstrual cycles, infertility, premenstrual syndrome, mood swings, anxiety, painful periods, debilitating sleep disturbances, night sweats, hot flashes, accelerated bone loss and many other symptoms related to hormone changes. The Female Panel helps healthcare professionals sort out the specifics of the hormone imbalance. This test sample is provided at home and then put into any local mailbox using the pre-paid mailer package. This test is more cost effective and convenient, but it is limited regarding the amount of information we get about the hormones.
